Managing the Peruvian Upwelling Ecosystem:
نویسنده
چکیده
A brief review is given of Ibe interrelationships and implications of Ibe findings reported in Ibe contributions included in this volume. Emphasis is given to some questions Ibat now appear crucial, e.g. Ibe cannibalization of anchoveu eggs and biannual cycles in anchoveta recruitment and their possible cause(s). Some suggestions are made for future research on various elements of Ibe Peruvian upwelling ecosystem. Steps arc indicated toward an integration of what is now known on Ibe dynamics of Ibe fishes off Peru into a large-scale simulation modcllbat could be used to help {onnulate a comprehensive fIShery management plan for that system.

Trophic modelling of the Peruvian upwelling ecosystem: Towards reconciliation of multiple datasets
In the 1980s, personnel from the Instituto del Mar del Peru collaborated with foreign experts to reconstruct time series of (1) catch and biomass of the Peruvian anchovy Engraulis ringens back to 1953, along with parallel time series of (2) abundance of anchovy predators and competitors, and (3) abiotic parameters indicative of the dynamics of the Peruvian upwelling system. This contribution do...

The World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, 2002) encouraged the application of the ecosystem approach by 2010. However, at the same Summit, the signatory States undertook to restore and exploit their stocks at maximum sustainable yield (MSY), a concept and practice without ecosystemic dimension, since MSY is computed species by species, on the basis of a monospecific model. Ackn...

SM 1. Cross correlation of laminated sequences among gravity cores (G) and box-cores (B). All the cores were retrieved off Pisco, Peru. The yellow lines indicate the position of the sedimentological shift (Gutierrez et al. 2009), the upper black bold lines indicate the start of Am activities and the green thick lines indicate the correlations of the diatomrich layers. The stratigraphic markers ...
متن کاملOxygen: A Fundamental Property Regulating Pelagic Ecosystem Structure in the Coastal Southeastern Tropical Pacific
BACKGROUND In the southeastern tropical Pacific anchovy (Engraulis ringens) and sardine (Sardinops sagax) abundance have recently fluctuated on multidecadal scales and food and temperature have been proposed as the key parameters explaining these changes. However, ecological and paleoecological studies, and the fact that anchovies and sardines are favored differently in other regions, raise que...
